So my new year's resolutions are coming a bit late this year! I jotted down a few on New Years Eve while I was under the influence so I have decided to share a more coherent list with you now.
I should also inform you that I think New Years resolutions are for the most part, rather silly, and I can't remember ever keeping one except when I made a resolution to learn how to properly curl my long locks with a curling iron. I would have liked to make this year's resolution something along the lines of 'find out what to do with this god forsaken mop of hair on my head' but I think I need another year of solid growth before that's achievable!
Anyways, I think I have made some pretty mature and achievable goals for this year so here goes!
1. Go back to school: I think I have had spent enough time humming and hawing about my education that it is now time to put on my big girl pants and head back to school - and stay there for once! I feel my time at the University of Ottawa is a little tainted with bad vibes and bad memories so I am planning to apply to a few different college programs in Toronto and Montreal.
2. Go veggie for one month: Yes I am taking a little vegetarian challenge this year! Max is doing it too actually, we started yesterday and had some delicious Indian food (chilly and egg curry with veggie samosas!), and tonight I made home made vegetarian pad thai for dinner. The veggie challenge is mainly inspired by that pesky stomach of mine, I am not supposed to eat red meat anymore so I am going to cut all meat out for a while and perhaps stick with it longer than a month! We'll see how it goes! If you have any suggestions for good veggie meals though, send 'em my way. I am taking a cue from my mami on this one and doing some menu planning so things run smoothly.
3. More knowledge less celebrity gossip: This is a bit of an odd resolution but since I have quite a bit of fair time here in Germany I find I have been reading way too many crappy gossip blogs! The internet is a wonderful thing and there are certainly much more interesting and important things I could be reading about than Charlie Sheen beating up yet another hooker. Obviously some things just can't be avoided, we are all going to hear about when Brangelina adopts their 15th African baby but do I really need to know about every time Kim Kardashian breaks a nail? No. So phase one of this plan is my boycott of Perez Hilton, sorry Perez but I think I have seen enough pictures of Lindsay Lohan with poorly drawn tears on her face.
4. Mo' money: I say this a lot but it really is time that I start being more responsible and start saving my cash! I no longer have a credit card which is a good thing, so once I return from my German adventures I am going to buckle down and save my money so I'm not always living pay check to pay check and deciding if those shoes are worth having to eat Ichiban for a whole week - they usually are, by the way.
5. Write a short story: I just made this goal the other day after speaking to my younger brother on the phone, he had just finished writing an 18 page narrative for his creative writing class. Listening to him speak about this story that he had created all on his own, I found myself growing rather envious and wishing I had taken that class in high school. But then a wonderful thing happened and I realized I don't have to be enrolled in a class to write something of my own. So I am going to start writing a short story some time soon, preferably on a type writer. If anyone in Thunder Bay has an old (functioning) type writer kicking around that they no longer want resist the urge to dump it at the Sally Ann for a few months and I will gladly take it off your hands when I return!
And those are officially all of my New Years resolutions! I had made a few more including 'no more McDonalds' but I realized I haven't tried the Nürnburger yet (remember that glorious burger mentioned in this post from October!) and I most certainly have to eat one of those babies before I leave! However I will make a conscious effort to try and reduce the amount of fast food I eat. I also made another (drunken) resolution to 'CHILL' this seems a bit silly, but sometimes I think I am a bit too hard on myself and need to take a step back, relax, realize I am only 20, and it is perfectly okay to not have every detail of my life figured out by this point. Oh and I am also going to start a record collection - simply because I want to.
I hope you all have made some realistic resolutions and are looking forward to the year ahead! Here is a photo of that list of resolutions I made after my night out New Years Eve. F.Y.I. 5 AM on January 1st isn't a good time to make your resolutions, I am quite surprised I didn't write down 'drink more beers' or something along those lines.
Wishing everyone a good week back at work, school, etc. I am going to go watch The Bachelor now, because I never said anything about giving up my reality TV addiction.
Tschüss!
